    Who Are We?

Music On The Run is managed by Bill and Linda Barker.  Bill has been an Instrumental Instructor with Education Queensland since 1989, teaching brass, woodwind and percussion to students at primary and secondary level.

As Principal of Music on the Run, Bill will be available to oversee the musical development of students as well as provide support and advice to tutors and parents as required.

Linda, a qualified primary school teacher, manages the administration side of Music on the Run.  She also plays a brass instrument, the tenor horn, and is a current member of Brisbane Brass 3 with her children.  Bill is the conductor of this band, making it a family affair!

    What Do We Do?

We facilitate private music lessons in the comfort of the students’ home.  We aim to match students with an appropriate tutor according to the type of instrument being learnt, location and level from beginner to advanced.  All of our tutors are mobile so there is no running around for parents!

    Expectations of Tutors

All tutors who have registered with Music on the Run are expected to present themselves in a professional manner.  This includes presentable attire, demonstrating punctuality and exhibiting a courteous manner.  It is required that tutors will communicate with the parents of the students in situations of running late or unavailability.  All tutors are required to have a blue card as per the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, and have provided resumes and references on registration. If you are interested in registering as a Music on the Run tutor, please fill out the application form or contact us.

    Expectations of Students

The main expectation of students learning an instrument is to enjoy the experience.  The initial learning phase varies according to the different instruments, with progress on some instruments being much quicker than on others.  This can be disheartening at times, but if the students adhere to the practice schedules as established by the tutors, then success will come.  The ability to play an instrument opens up a world of opportunities and experiences that can last for a lifetime.  If you’re interested in enrolling as a Music on the Run student, please fill out our online student enrolment form or contact us.

    Expectations of Parents

The role of the parent is to provide a supportive environment in which students and tutors can accomplish their goals.  This environment is both physical, through the provision of an appropriate area for lessons to be held with few distractions, as well as emotional, through verbal encouragement when students are undergoing home practice.  It is expected that parents will also communicate with the tutors regarding alterations to lesson times.
